And one argument to bring them into the light and bind them...

You are all missing the point. First of all Kelvin, I am not using 'big words'. If you think a word I use is big you obviously have a very limited vocabulary. Look at Adren's comment and you'll know what inappropriate use of big words mean. This may sound offensive, Kelvin, but looking at your rude slurs at me in your comment, this is very mild in comparison.

Secondly, I've said that Steve was a great guy. I respect him as I respect you and everyone else. Actually, I respect you more, Kelvin, because I know you personally. But placing an emoticon is stupid, useless and pointless. If it was a badge with the proceeds going to charity, then that's great. It's achieving something. The turtle does not do anything. And showing respect. Why don't you keep your respects to yourselves and stop flaunting it in everyone's faces? We really want to see how much you think you 'respect' someone rite? If we don't see it, we will all die from a not-seeing-someone-else's-respect syndrome. I respect things like a normal person, I would think that after knowing me for years I don't appear to disrespect anyone (within reasonable limit), and I don't make banners out of my respect and stick it in people's faces, going HEY I RESPECT THIS LOOK AT ME. Who's pretentious now?

Ok, you may want to 'vent your anguish' when such a thing happens, as you say. Does an emoticon create a cyber-vent that syphons your grief to cyberspace? Surely not.

And who the hell is harry sanditisisdisdopoulousrekanis? lmaoz

PS Tim you said I can turn off the anonymous thing?

Hey Li, lets keep this friendly:

The turtle actually does allow you to vent a bit. Its a small gesture that allows you to feel better and I believe that showing your respect for someone does make others feel better also.

If you believe in spirits or afterlife of any kind (which you should, being a Christian) do you think Steve Irwin would think that all these thousands of turtles popping up on msn are stupid? He probably would think that its wonderful that people care enough to show their respect no matter how small the gesture is. Or do you think it better to not make any gesture to the dead at all?

If you never had to show your respect why would you ever wear black to a funeral? Why even have a funeral? Why grieve, or mourn or do anything that shows respect? I believe that these turtles are a sign just like this except on a smaller scale (which is reasonable considering we don't know this man).

And so in answer to the big question I'd say yes, turtles help. Even if its just to a small degree like helping one vent a little or if its a big one like helping Steve Irwin's spirit to rest. Overall there is some good coming out of it and that counts for something. More than sitting back and denouncing those who are trying to make a little gesture.

Oh, I don't need a big vocabulary to tell you that you're wrong.

we're greeted by big words as soon as we enter your blog, so you can't say that "your blog doesn't use any big words" or anything similar, because it's the immediate impression. it looks stupid, IMO.

    Plus, you spelt argument wrong.

If you have a problem with seeing turtle emoticons, install msn plus and rename him okay?

and as i'm sure it's been said time and again, not everyone has to "show respect" as you do. it's just another one of those "choices" we have, even if you do think it's conformist. also when you say you respect kelvin, it doesn't sound like you do.

Keeping it short, have to study for Methods.

ANYWAY, respect can be shown in many different ways. There is no set way to show respect, isn't that what makes us human?

If you feel that putting a turtle in your display name is pointless, then fine, that's your opinion, but you have no right, absolutely no right to condemn others for doing so.

First of all, I'd like to reiterate that this is all in good humour and that if anyone is feeling exceptionally offended personally they should try and visit a non-controversial blog, eg this link. http://fmatt.wordpress.com/. However, your pants may be bored off there. xD xD

Now with serious (still good humoured) matters.

Jerry,I have every right to comdemn whoever I want, as free speech is a basic human right.
Just as people have rights to put inane symbols next to their msn names, I have the right to comment on them.

And Kelvin, you are a fervent athiest as shown in your facetious discriminations against Christians at school, so why are you preaching to me about Irwin being able to see people's respects after his death? My faith is of no concern in this argument; it's unfair for athiests to use others' faith as weapons against them while the athiests themselves have no such vulnerability. So what you said about 'helping Irwin's spirit to rest' is not even something you believe. How can your arguments be trusted if you don't even believe in what you say yourself?

A funeral is a meaningful way to celebrate/mourn some's passing into the afterlife; placing turtles in msn names is not. And my opinion on the colour schemes of a funeral is of a different matter.

If placing a turtle next to your msn name really helps vent that grief of yours, then go ahead, I support you. However, most people are not in the same circumstance and this tirade is directed at them, not you =D.

And Matt, the words on my blog are not big words. They only seem big because they are not English so you don't know them. I'm sure they are actually quite common words in the Vatican. Also, I don't want to rename people on my MSN because that is like to censoring their right to free expression and free speech, and as I am an ardent embracer of free speech, I will not do so. You may be asking why I am supporting the free speech of turtle lovers while condemning their actions at the same. This is because freedom of speech works by the mechanism that they are free to express themselves while others are free to question them. And yes, I do respect everyone here, no less than you respect everyone here. Whatever insinuation you got from what I said was self-imagined.

And David, your lame. =P Just kidding hehehehe.

Haha thanx Nancy, it's nice for people to get together and discuss issues. It proves our English skills, as while as exercising our brains. And increases touch typing speed. And it since it's in good humour no1 is getting offended (hopefully, or u can go to matts blog as mentioned b4 xD).

And I do make typos writing at 1am.

No Matt, you definitely don't have any non-neglibigle grief, and neither does anyone else except Kelvin as he claimed so. I personally asked some turtlers about their view on the turtles and they said that they put it on mostly because someone sent them a msg telling them to do so and so they put it on without out much thought, thinking, yea wateva, 'seems' to be the right thing to do.

This is what you call blind sheep syndrome, a charateristic that everyone has to a certain degree, which, being at times unbearable to witness, is extremely vexatious.

haha, being an aethiest doesn't mean I don't believe in spirits. Aethiest is, in fact, a very broad term. I believe there is no greater being that controls the universe, but the human spirit is a different matter.

Like I said before, turtles are a smaller way to show respect. Small gestures are not stupid, and surely shouldn't be condemned.

Anyway I got to go to tutoring, cya later.
